Archaeology Notes

NT36SW 22.11 centred 3327 6374

The headgear stands 85ft (26m) high, and was constructed by Sir William Arrol and Co in 1893. A flight of steps runs up the northern angled brace and dives access to the wheels for maintainence.

The original pulley wheels had fewer and thicker spokes.

Information taken from Lady Victoria Scottish Mining Museum pamphlet dated 1991.
