Publication Account (1998)

The lronmills in lronmills Park is a reminder of Dalkeith's connection with ironmilling since at least 1648. The water-powered mill produced various iron goods, including clogs for miners. The power came from a weir on the River North Esk to the west, but the mill lade has been infilled since 1963. Still standing in the complex are the mill itself, a linking wing, the millers' dwelling house and a cartshed range.

Information from ‘Historic Dalkeith: The Archaeological Implications of Development’ (1998).
