Some 300m E of the Bridge Inn at Ratho (NT17SW 78) is a milestone whose inscription reads ' Division; Betwixt; First and; Second; Stages'. Immediately to the N is an old milestone: inscription reading 23 1/2 on W side, the E side being indecipherable.

This milestone is not visible on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Edinburghshire 1853, sheet 5), but is clearly marked on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map and on the OS 1:10000 raster map (ND).
