(NT 1109 7353) Newliston, a late classical mansion, was designed by Robert Adam in 1789 for Thomas Hog. It replaced a 17th century house. It has three storeys and a basement. Wings were added by David Bryce in 1845.

Lot 142 - A remarkable set of twelve Adam applique needlework wall panels worked in fine felt and differently coloured threads on a rep background. The larger panels are designed with classical medallions, figures holding drapery, vases, cornucopia of flowers, and many other decorative devices of ancient Greece; the smaller panels with baskets of fruit etc, all in different colours comprising:
1 panel 7' 9" x 8' 3"
2 others 7' 9" x 3' 4"
2 others 7' 9" x 2' 2"
2 others 4' 4" x 3' 4"
A tall strip 7'9" x 1'
4 small panels 1' 10" x 3' 6"
This set was designed by Robert Adam for the small drawing room and was worked by Lady Mary Hog, first wife of Thomas Hog, who built Newliston (Amor 210 pounds).

Desk Based Assessment (September 2017)
In September 2017, Scottish Water commissioned GUARD Archaeology Limited to undertake a desk-based assessment of the route for a proposed water pipeline between Gogar, Edinburgh and Broxburn, West Lothian (NGR: NT 17655 71604 to NGR NT 09803 72294).
A desk-based assessment (DBA) carried out on the development area found that two nationally important cultural heritage sites Millburn Tower IGDL (Site 2) and Newliston IGDL (Site 14) were located directly on the proposed route of the water pipeline. The assessment concluded that, following re-instatement of the ground, the proposal would have no significant direct effect on the Inventory Garden and Designed Landscapes of Millburn Tower and Newliston.
