Archaeology Notes

NT17NW 177.01 13859 78251 and 13877 78246

The concrete gun-emplacements are situated in the garden of a house annotated 'The Forts' at South Queesnferry.

Built by 1903, they were designed for Quick Firing (QF) 4.7-inch guns. During WW I, the guns were moved to Inchcolm in 1916.

Activities

Project (March 2013 - September 2013)

A project to characterise the quantity and quality of the Scottish resource of known surviving remains of the First World War. Carried out in partnership between Historic Scotland and RCAHMS.
