NT08SE 32.01 0651 8413

The West Quarry is depicted on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey 25-inch map (Fife, 1896). An Air Shaft is depicted at NT 06359 83868 and there are extensive quarrying remains depicted to the immediate N of the limekiln bank (NT08SE 32.00).

(No location given) Charlestown Mine, Limekilns, Fife: These limestone workings have entrances which are situated along a quarry face and lead into sloping roads which lead to what was the working face. Limestsone removal was more or less abandoned by 1937, although limestone was being extracted until 1957.
