Archaeology Notes

NS98SW 7.18 94545 83831

(Grangemouth 1: location cited as NS 946 838). At mouth of navigable channel of River Carron, on S bank: mid 19th century. Tilted ruin of large light-tower with tapering masonry base, corbelled walkway with iron railing, and part-collapsed cylindrical brick tower with stone dressings.

This beacon is situated on the W side of the elongated peninsula formed by Grangemouth Docks. It gaurds the opposite (SE) side of the mouth of the River Carron from the beacon (NS98SW 7.17) that is situated at the N end of the breakwater NS98SW 7.16.

This beacon is depicted, but not noted, on the current edition of the OS (GIS) AIB.
