Carron Dock [NAT]

OS 1:10,000 map, 1993.

This dock was constructed as part of the development sponsored by the Caledonian Rly in 1877-83, following their acquisition of the Forth and Clyde Canal. The wet dock of 4ha area had a timber basin of about 3.2ha at its SW end, and was joined by a cutting or short canal to the SE corner of the Old Dock (NS98SW 7.13). The entrance from the River Carron to the new dock was placed at the mouth of the river, 0.5km further E than before.

J Gifford and F A Walker 2002.
