Archaeology Notes

The golf course road passes below this small aqueduct.

H Brown 1997.

This small aqueduct, which takes the canal over the Mains Burn, is clearly marked on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Linlithgowshire 1856, sheet 5) and on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Linlithgowshire 1897, sheet 5NE), on both of which there is shown a building just to the S of the aqueduct which is referred to as a Lodge for Preston Estate.

The aqueduct is also clearly visible on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1989) and on the OS Basic Scale digital map (2000).

Information from RCAHMS (MD), 5 April 2001.
