Archaeology Notes

NS80SE 52 85786 04308

Not to be confused with Enterkine Viaduct (NS 4158 2312 to 4184 2292) across the River Ayr in the parish of Tarbolton, Ayrshire, for which see NS42SW 32.

Not to be confused with Enterkinfoot, Railway Embankment and Retaining Wall (NS 8527 0482), for which see NS80SE 80.

This viaduct carries the Glasgow - Kilmarnock - Gretna ('Nith Valley') main line of the former Glasgow and South-Western Rly over the Enterkin Burn. It remains in regular use by passenger traffic.

This viaduct is depicted, but not noted, on the 1983 edition of the OS 1:10,000 map.

The location assigned to this record defines the midpoint of the structure. The available map evidence suggests that it extends from NS c. 85764 04319 to NS c. 85825 04286.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 8 March 2006.
