Archaeology Notes

NS77NE 7 7912 7889.

A fairly well-worn As of Nero, which had been found at a depth of 2 1/2 ft, by Mr D Macleod, in the garden of Old Mill Farm on the banks of the R. Bonny, Castlecary, was submitted by Mr J A Smith, 986 Crow Road, Glasgow, through J G Scott, Glasgow Museum, in June 1951.

A S Robertson 1963

Old Mill Farm is Castlecary Mill (NS 7908 7888) now a farm steading. Enquiries at the farm succeeded in locating the garden at 7912 7889. The coin was found during the 1935-45 War when the finder was living there as an evacuee; he now lives in Helensburgh.
