This bridge was built in 1868 to the design of John Carrick, Cty Architect. It was built in timber, but painted to look like masonry.

Old Prince of Wales Bridge, Kelvingrove Park. This bridge was designed to carry the Royal Procession over the River Kelvin on their way to the laying of the foundation stone for the new (Gilmorehill) building of the University (NS56NE 54); this was carried out by the (then) Prince of Wales on 8 October 1866. It was a simple wooden structure, painted to imitate granite, and was built by Mr Thomas Lamb in the space of only eight days. Although only intended to be temporaray, it proved extremely uselul, and stood for a further twenty-five years. It was replaced by the present bridge (NS56NE 1477) in 1895.
D Boyce 1996.
This bridge formerly carried a roadway across the River Kelvin within the area of Kelvingrove Park (NS56NE 328). The river here forms the boundary between the parishes of Govan (to the W) and Glasgow (to the E).
