Architecture Notes

ARCHITECT: Charles Wilson (1849-52)

Situated on an elevated site, square block topped with large 'pudding basin' dome.

Interior has grand central octagonal hall.

(NS 4770 6402) The John Neilson Institution is a single-storeyed building of ashlar in round-arched Italian style with a pedimented three-arch entrance. It has a fine elongated, flat-topped centre dome over a notable central hall. Charles Wilson, architect 1849. Plans are held by NMRS.
