Archaeology Notes

NS38SW 6 33 84.

Many years ago a peaked helmet, either a 'Morion' with the rim corroded, or a 'Glogaide' which had no rim, was found on the banks of the River Fruin, jammed into a crevice of the rock, at the edge of the stream.

It was found about 4 miles below the spot where the conflict in Glen Fruin was fought in AD 1603, and was probably carried down by the river to this spot (see NS38SW 4 for another helmet found in this neighbourhood).

H J Stewart 1855
