(Name cited as Ayr High Light). This little-known tower was designed by Robert Paton, and retains both its original domed lantern of small riveted pieces of wrought iron and the oroginal square glazing. The small dioptric apparatus stood on a simple wooden table; a second lower sector light was provided by a metal reflector. The lower two rooms of the tower were residential and were fitted with nicely finished joinery, but, not long after its erection in 1841, the accommodation was enlarged by the addition of a single-storeyed cottage, providing a much more commodious living-room.
