(NR 5050 6320) (information from RCAHMS to OS) A round cairn, 26ft by 20 1/2ft and 4ft high, lies within 100 yards of a chambered cairn (NR56SW 1).

M Campbell and M Sandeman 1966.

On a raised beach level, now grown over and occupied by lazy beds, is a circular mound of sharp profile, measuring 6.5m in diameter and 1.2m high. It is covered by a thin mantle of turf through which a content of small, rounded beach stones and one or two loose slabs is exposed. There is no trace of a kerb or cist.

Apart from the circular plan-form, there is no evidence that this mound is a cairn, and the sharp profile and association with the lazy beds suggest that it is wholly or in part a result of early modern stone clearance.

Surveyed at 1/10,000.

Visited by OS (N K B) 3 June 1979.

Activities

Field Visit (May 1975)

NR 505 632. This cairn is situated a little to the NE of the chambered cairn [RCAHMS 1984] No. 3 on the level ground at the head of the bay known as Poll a' Cheò, and on the W side of the Abhainn na Sròine. Composed of small and medium-sized stones, it is well preserved, measuring 4.5m in diameter and 1.4 m in height; one large slab protrudes from the cairn material on the N side, but without excavation its purpose cannot be determined.

RCAHMS 1984, visited May 1975
