(Location cited as NO 716 573). Harbour buildings, mid 19th century. A 3-storey, 13-bay block, with ashlar ground floor and coursed-rubble upper storeys. There is a central pedimented feature, to which a clock has been added.

The OS (GIS), Revision edition of the OS 25-inch map (Forfarshire, sheet 35, 1924) [Map epoch 3], notes this building as Custom House.

Site Management (25 June 2001)

Large 3-storey, 13-bay classical Custom House and Warehouse with ancillary structures along 3 streets forming quadrangle. Fine sandstone ashlar at ground floor, stugged and pointed at 2nd and 3rd floors, squared and snecked to rear. Base course, band course above ground and 1st floors, eaves band course. Rusticated quoins.

The Wet Dock was built in 1843, and the prestigious Custom House reflects the importance of Montrose as a port in the 19th century.(Historic Environment Scotland List Entry)
