(NO 618 663) Knox agrees with Stukely and Chalmers in placing the Roman station of 'Tina' at King's Ford, on the North Esk, below the confluence of West Water. The distance from the (bogus) camp of Aesica (NO55NW 12) is exactly 8 Roman miles. Roy places this station at Bridge of Morphy near the mouth of the North Esk.
J Knox 1831.
'Tina' is, presumably, derived from Richard of Cirencester's "ad Tinam" and therefore bogus, but Chalmers, presumably, on Richard's evidence shows "Ad Tinam"exactly on the site of the Balmakewan Roman Camp - 665 666 (NO66NE 5) which was not discovered by St Joseph until the late 1960s.
G Chalmers 1807.
The site of the Roman fort is said to be in the part Stracathro parish on the N side of the North Esk (ie. in area NO 628 661).
NSA 1845.
Air photographs and ground perambulation in 1958 failed to reveal any vestiges of this alleged Roman fort in the areas centred NO 628 661 and 618 663. (See nearby Roman temporary camp - NO66NW 13 - which may possibly be identified as 'Tina'.)
