Archaeology Notes

NO64SW 140 64438 40628

Location formerly cited as NO 6444 4062.

For Arbroath Harbour (centred NO 6418 4044), see NO64SW 28.00.

This is a reinforced concrete bridge (with a span approximately 8 metres in width) with steel railings carrying a road over the Brothock Burn [Brothock Water] from the Seagate to the SE side of Arbroath Harbour (NO64SW 28.00). Angus Council, who say the bridge dates from the 1950s, plan to remove the bridge shortly after 1 September 1997.

Information from RCAHMS (MKO), 18 August 1997.

This bridge carries (or formerly carried) the road or track leading onto the NE breakwater or pier of Arbroath Harbour (NO64SW 28.00) over the Brothock Water at the Eastern point of the harbour, and to the S of the Seagate. It may be considered as the access bridge to the harbour.

Notwithstanding the comments above (MKO, 18 August 1997), it (or its successor) is depicted (but not noted) on the current OS (GIS) AIB Landline.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 19 April 2006.
