Archaeology Notes

NO60NW 14 6116 0754

See also NO60NW 13.

The first mention of the market cross at Crail is in the Burgh Archives dated 2 October 1552. In a reference to property at Crail, dated 1500-1 (Reg Magni Sig Reg Scot) there occurs 'in vico occidentali supra crucem', which would give ground for belief that there was another cross near the top of the present Crosscauseway.

(For later cross see NO60NW 13).

E Beveridge 1893

Crosscauseway is at NO 6116 0754 (D W Milne, retired parish minister). No further information.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 28 August 1968

Destroyed. For replacement cross see NO60NW 13.

(Undated) information in NMRS.
