Archaeology Notes

NO53NE 59.01 centred 5784 3877

The dispersed accommodation camp for East Haven airfield was situated immediately N of West Balmirmer farmsteading. One corrugated hut, presently in use as a store, survives along with several concrete posts that once formed the perimeter fence. The camp is visible on vertical RAF post-war air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 6, 3385, flown 14 April 1946) and includes many Nissen huts and other buildings.

Information from RCAHMS and Defence of Britain Project form, Mr J Norrie, December 2001

The camp is partly visible on vertical air photographs taken in 1947 (CPE/Scot/UK 218, 4204-4205, flown 25 June 1947).

Information from RCAHMS (DE), October 2005
