Archaeology Notes

NO42SE 91 47313 21122

The farmstead of Bloomfield is depicted as roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife and Kinross 1855, sheet 3), and is shown on the current OS 1:2500 scale digital map.

Bloomfield is described in the Object Name Book (ONB) as 'A small house one storey high with offices, the whole built of mud and in middling repair; there is a garden and farm of about 6 acres of arable land attached. Tenanted by James Thom Bloomfiled the property of David Henderson, Leuchars'.

The mud building must have been replaced by one of stone, as a single storey stone built cottage is still extant at this location within the NE Squadron dispersal area of Leuchars Airfield (NO42SE 59.00) and inside the airfield boundary.
