Archaeology Notes

NO42SE 59.21 46233 20909

A large type 27 (anti-aircraft defence) pillbox is visible on RAF wartime vertical air photographs (NLA 48, 5.13, flown 5 September 1942 and NLA 68, 3005-6, flown 27 August 1943), in the corner of a triangular field imemdiately NE of what was the group of seven hangars (NO42SE 59.02), now reduced to two. The pillbox is depicted on the OS 1:10000 scale map, (1982) and the current OS 1:2500 scale digital map.

The pillbox stands immediately outside of the airfiled perimeter fence. It stands externally complete.
