Archaeology Notes

NO42SE 59.08 4625 2072

A type 27 (anti-aircraft defence) pillbox is visible on RAF wartime vertical air photographs (NLA 48, 5.13, flown 25 September 1942 and NLA 68, 3004-5, flown 27 August 1943), in the area between the group of seven Aircraft Sheds (NO42SE 59.02) and the two hangars to the E (NO42SE 59.03). The pillbox survived the rebuilding of the airfield between 1942 and 1943, but is not depicted on the OS 1:10000 scale map (1982).
