Architecture Notes (10 September 2009)

NO24SE 69.05 26154 43133

Three sundials have been recorded at Arthurstone: a facet-head sundial, dated 1760, on the lawn SE of the house (NO24SE 69.08); a horizontal sundial, dated 1745, in the walled garden in front of the summer house (NO24SE 69.05); an undated facet-head sundial in the walled garden in front of the greenhouse (NO24SE 69.09). The last is probably the late medieval sundial described in the notes relating to the architectural fragments from Coupar Angus Abbey and Coupar Angus (NO24SE 69.07). The sundials in the walled garden, along with the architectural fragments, were formerly entered as NO24SE 20, a site that is now cancelled.
