Archaeology Notes

NO14SE 49 c. 19 42

There are many small cairns running through Blairgowrie parish in different directions, from an encampment in Kinloch parish 'i.e. Buzzart Dykes: NO14NW 2) (As these cairns are alleged to be associated with a battle in the Stormont area, presumably some were located in the area around Stormont Loch).

OSA 1796

The suggestion that there were small cairns around Stormont Loch, which lies to the SSE of Blairgowrie, arises from a Statistical Account entry mentioning 'many small cairns running through Blairgowrie parish in different directions from an encampment in Kinloch Parish'. Since these cairns were alleged to be associated with a battle in the Stormont area, the OS records assumed that some were located in the area around the loch itself. There is no evidence to indicate that there were ever any small cairns here.

Information from RCAHMS (JRS) 16 June 1989.

OSA 1796.
