Icehouse [NAT]

This relatively large and well-constructed ice-house is set into a prominent natural ridge about 160m N of Dupplin Loch, from which the ice has probably been derived, and just N of the boundary between the parishes of Tibbermore and Aberdalgie. It is of drystone construction, and survives in good condition, but is overgrown with mature trees.
The entrance is uphill (on the N), and has been along an unroofed drystone approach and through an externally-checked opening of ashlar construction. Timbers set within the masonry have apparently served to support the corrugated iron sheeting that now lies adjacent, and there are vertical slots for an inner door at the inner end of the short entrance-passage.
The interior of the ice-house could not be examined on the date of visit for want of a torch, but it has apparently been of conical-roofed form and circulat on plan. It has probably measured 2.1m in depth below the entrance.
