NO 039 175: Roman temporary camp discovered from air photographs in August 1951 (Visible on J K St Joseph air photographs JQ 71-2). Although it lies at the N end of one of the very few gaps in the Ochil massif, it is not on any Roman route at present known. It measures c.2050' x 1350' the ramparts being formed from upcast from the ditch. The defences were trenched in 1952, when the W entrance was located.

No traces of this camp were seen on the ground.

62 acre, Severan. In each of the sides of the camp there is a slight re-entrant angle, the two shorter sides being bowed out and the longer sides bowed in, the changes in direction taking place at the gate positions. A tutulus has been recorded at the S gate and at one of the two W gates. An 'annexe' defined by a narrow ditch has also appeared, attached to the S side of the camp between the S gate and the SE angle. The size is approximately 329' x 290'.

The camp at Broomhill Farm, Forteviot, was first discovered through cropmarks on air photographs by Feachem in 1951, with parts of the ditch confirmed by probing (1952: 217); the majority has now been recorded from the air (illus 129). It lies on a level terrace close to a meander in the River Earn, with the camp at Dunning some 2.5km to the SSW, and the Gask Ridge across the Earn to the north. It measures 640m from NNE to SSW by 410m transversely, enclosing 26ha (64 acres). There is a small annexe on the eastern part of the SSW side, measuring 98m by 120m enclosing a further 1.2ha (3 acres). Probable entrances are recorded in the centre of the NNE and SSW sides and one in the WNW side is protected by a titulus. The position of these entrances suggests that the camp had six gates. Trenches were placed through the camp in 1952 by Aitken, locating the western entrance, but no further information was provided (Taylor 1953: 105–6). A gold coin of Hadrian was found on Broomhill farm in 1829 (Bateson 1989: 166).

Watching Brief (30 November 2013)
A watching brief was kept on 30 November 2013 during the excavation of a trench for a new pole on an overhead power line within the limits of a Roman temporary camp (NO01NW 1) at Broomhill, Forteviot. Nothing of archaeological significance was encountered.
