Activities

Standing Building Recording (14 September 2023)

NN 93139 28973 A basic level survey was carried out on the ancillary buildings at Glenalmond House known as the kennels. This involved photographs being taken and written records being made. Several blocked doors and windows were recorded indicating diferent phases of use and remodelling. In one of the buildings (5) tree trunks being used as wall braces were recorded.

Glenalmond House is described as a ‘sizeable but undemonstrative mansion house of a sporting estate’ by John Gifford and was begun either by James Patton of The Cairnies or his son in 1831. Following a fire in 1907 the building was repaired and remodelled by its then owner, the railway magnate Sir Alexander Henderson. Further work was carried out by Bell Ingram design in 2003 (Gifford 2007, 390). The former kennels which form the focus of this development proposals are mapped on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1866...

[Building 1] is currently in use as a kitchen, café and bothy area and does not form part of the current planning application.

[Building 2]... is currently being used as a garage.

[Building 4]... is currently in use as a garage.

[Building 6]... is in use as a golf equipment store, a fishing tackle store and a small potting shed. It has a slated roof and a small belfry with a bell at its Eastern gable end and a chimney at its Western gable end.
