(NN 6169 5897) Possible remains of stone built dun or ring-fort. Information from M E C Stewart 20 November 1962.
At NN 6167 5895 on a slight terrace at the E end of an area of flat arable land, is a circular enclosure with a levelled interior, consisting of a stone wall 0.3m high and 3.0m wide and measuring 15.5m in overall diameter. On all but the E side the outer face of the wall can be clearly identified. The feature is tree planted and grass covered and there are no indications of an entrance. It is not a dun but is probably a hut.
Surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (RD) 23 June 1969
This enclosure is oval and not circular as described by OS (RD) and is in a poor state of preservation. A few stones of the outer face can be seen in the N and S giving an overall measurement of 14.0m. The W and E arcs are mutilated and a true overall measurement E-W can not be attained, but it appears to have been about 15.5m. No inner facing stones are visible, but the spread of debris under the turf suggests a wall thickness of c.2.0m. The entrance is not evident. There is no trace of contemporary cultivation in the vicinity but this is probably a hut circle.
