(NN 5879 4692) Castle (NR) (Site of)

OS 6" map (1900)

The site of the dun (OS 6" map annotated by A L F Rivet, 4 June 1962; 1" trace annotated by R W Feachem) of Kerrowclach, on Kerrowmore farm, is just opposite Innerwick, on the S side of Lyon and adjacent to a fort. A quarter of a mile to the W is the graveyard of Brenno (NN54NE 3). The fort was nearly circular with an external diameter of about 86' and a wall of about 12'. Its stones are said to have been used to form an embankment for the Lyon at this point.

W J Watson 1913

The severerly robbed and mutilated grass-covered remains of a homestead (c/f NN44SE 7), situated at the edge of the River Lyon, on slightly elevated ground. From the few facing-stones it appears to have been about 23.0m in diameter over walls c.3.0m wide, but it is difficult to obtain accurate measurements. There are no certain indications of an entrance.

Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Visited by OS (JP) 17 September 1975
