This bridge carriees the former Callander and Oban Rly over the River Awe nearly 7 miles [11.3km] beyond Loch Awe Station (NN12NW 51). It dates from 1879 and comprises three girder spans on two intermediate masonry piers; the contractors were W and T Adams.

This viaduct carries the Crianlarich-Oban line of the former Caledonian Rly over the River Awe to the S of Bonawe and Inverawe. It remains in regular use by passenger traffic.
The location assigned to this record defines the approximate midpoint of the structure. The available map evidence suggests that it extends from NN c. 02909 30167 to NN c. 02977 30122.
The river here forms the boundary between the parishes of Glenorchy and Inishail (to the W) and Ardchattan and Muckairn (to the E).
