Archaeology Notes

NM62SW 8 61604 24852.

(NM 6160 2485) Lochbuie House stands in its own policies at the head of Loch Buie, about 130m NW of Moy Castle (NM62SW 1). It comproses a substantial gable-ended block, three storeys and an attic in height, with flanking wings of two storeys, all apparently of late 18th-century date. The entrance-porch and the bow-fronted range of buildings that extends beyong the NW wing are later additions, while the loggia abutting the SE wing is evidently of recent construction. The masonry is of harled rubble with free- stone dressings. The interior has been considerably altered and now presents no features of special interest. Soon after succeeding to the property in 1785 Murdoch, 19th of Lochbuie, appears to have begun preparations for the erection of this mansion, which was evidently approaching completion early in 1790; the architect is unknown.
