Archaeology Notes

NM56SW 5 centred on 516 643

A group of eight buildings are shown adjacent to a sheep wash. They were probably part of the township of Coire-mhuilinn cleared in 1828 for sheep. The gaelic name suggests there was a mill nearby, though its position is not known. This lies outside the present SSSI. This has been a desk assessment area.

J Wordsworth, SSSIs, Scottish Natural Heritage, 1993

Two unroofed structures and a sheepfold are depicted on the first edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire 1875, sheet xxiv). Eight unroofed structures are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1974). The sheepwash is also marked by the OS.
