Archaeology Notes

NM45SW 11.01 436 517.

Two fragments of a free-standing cross, datable to the 14th / 15th century, at least 1.60m in height, which together comprised most of the the shaft and the lower part of the head were formerly in Kilmory churchyard (NM 436 517) but disappeared some time after April 1964. The larger fragment was found by the road-side near Skipness, Kintyre, in 1974, and is now displayed in the Parish Church at Dervaig (NM 430 517), but the smaller fragment has not been recovered.

Also in the churchyard is the lower part of a probable 14th / 15th century grave-slab 1.0m long, on which is carved a sword, plant-scrolls, and a pair of shears. The RCAHMS also describe three 17th / 18th century grave slabs which may also be seen in the churchyard.

RCAHMS 1980, visited 1974
