On the N of the burn that flows through Mingulay village there is a small square mill-building with a wheel-pit on its S side. The mill-building measures 4.2m from ESE to WNW by 2.8m over rubble walls 0.8m in thickness and 1.2m in height, and the entrance is on the ESE. A gap on the SSW may have accommodated a drive-shaft. The wheel-pit is enclosed by drystone walls and measures 0.75m in width at its base and 0.9m in depth from the level of the opening for the drive-shaft; this suggests that the wheel was about 1.8m in diameter and and no more than 0.7m in width. There is a shelf 0.2m wide opposite the drive-shaft opening, but the wall above this shelf is loosely constructed, and is probably a repair. The millstones now lie at NL 56477 83376 (MING03 241) and were moved there by an unknown visitor to the island. This site has been previously identified by Branigan and Foster (2000).
