Archaeology Notes

NK06SW 26.03 centred 0393 6383

The southern dispersal area is situated about 200m N of Craigiepots farmsteading (NK06SW 114).

The dispersal area is outside the perimeter track, and is visible on vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 108, 3004-3005, flown 23 May 1946), which show that at that date there were two aircraft hangars, both of the blister type, one an enlarged version. In addition, two E shaped dispersal or blast pens and at least seven buildings, a small tower and one emergency air-raid shelter are also visible on the 1946 photographs.

The current OS 1:2500 scale digital map shows the outline of two structures and the air-raid shelter with no evidence for the blast pens.
