Archaeology Notes

NJ91SE 22 9505 1099

This farmsteading has been removed and its site lies beneath a large industrial estate. As depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1869, sheet lxvi), the U-plan steading stood with its open side facing S, and what was probably a detached farmhouse or cottage lay at the S end of its long W range. A horse engine was attached to the E end of the N range of the steading.

By the end of the 19th century both the horse-engine and the farmhouse had been removed, but a new free-standing building had been erected in the yard (1901, sheet lxvi).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 10 December 2002.
