(NJ 9632 0376) Crab's Cairn (NR)

OS 1:10,000 map, (1974).

Crab's Cairn (Anon 1901) measures 14 metres in diameter and 1.7 metres in height. It has been mutilated by wartime installations.

A short cist containing 'an urn 6 inches high, formed of dark baked earth, with a yellowish crust, figured simply' was found in this cairn in the late 18th century.

This cairn, which lies within an area of unimproved ground 280m NE of Peterseat farmsteading (NJ90SE 75), measures 11m in diameter by 1.1m in height. The cairn comprises a mass of loose stones and boulders, but it is also surmounted by a modern heap of stones and is crossed by a field-wall.
