Archaeology Notes

NJ90NE 61 9554 0546

For Aberdeen Harbour (centred NJ 95 05), see NJ90NE 7.00.

A type 22 pillbox has been identified from RAF WWII vertical air photographs, (106G L/NLA 20.03.1945, 4006-7), situated at the E end of Torry Quay. Torry Quay has been substantially altered since 1945 and the current OS 1:10000 scale map (1991) shows that the small stub-ended jetty on which the pillbox stood has been removed or incorporated into the modern wharfs at this location.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), December 2000.

Nothing is now visible of this pillbox, which stood at the E end of Torry Quay. Like all of the other pillboxes that were situated in the harbour area, it was probably removed soon after the Second World War. Hexagonal on plan, it was of type-22 design (Wills 1985).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 5 December 2001.
