(NJ 8929 3062) Bronze Swords found. (NAT)

OS 6" map, (1959)

Four double edged bronze swords were found about 12 years ago (c.1856) during the cultivation of a marshy piece of ground. They were about 2ft in length and were found at a depth of about 2ft. They were presented by the Earl of Aberdeen to the Edinburgh Museum.

Name Book 1868.

A Late Bronze Age hoard consisting of two leaf-shaped swords (25" and 23" long), a perforated chape 5 3/8ins long, a swan-neck pin of 8 7/8ins - said to have been found with a third bronze sword and another pin, on the farm of Ythsie, Tarves. Part of this hoard was presented to the British Museum by the Earl of Aberdeen. (BM58, 11-15, 1, 2 and 5)
