Archaeology Notes

NJ82NW 108 8027 2573

A broken stone artifact and a several sherds of 'rough grained' pottery were found in a molehill during fieldwalking on 8 October 1995 and are retained by the finder (W Howard, Old Schooolhouse, Kirkton of Bourtie).

The stone object measures 450mm in length by 250mm in width and 40mm in thickness, and has a perforation measuring 60mm across. It is of fine-grained stone and shows evidence of drilling on both sides; the drill-holes are aligned but do not completely penetrate the object, the edges of which were apparently broken in antiquity.
