Activities

Photographic Survey (September 1960)

Photographic survey by the Scottish National Buildings Record in September 1960.

Watching Brief (28 July 2003 - 13 August 2003)

NJ73NE 9.04 76668 39254

NJ 762 393 A watching brief and building recording were undertaken in July and August 2003 on the potting shed at Fyvie Castle walled garden prior to renovation and repointing works.

The watching brief showed that the building was built onto naturally occurring deposits, and the surrounding ground was made up with differing grades of gravel.

The standing building recording uncovered evidence for a three-roomed building, dating to the latter half of the 19th century. This later underwent internal alterations to form a two-room layout, with a decrease in the glass coverage within the central third of the roof.

Watching Brief (27 October 2013 - 28 October 2013)

From 27th September - 28 October 2013 an archaeological watching brief was maintained during the repair of a garden wall. The wall was recorded and characterised but no reused stonework was identified and the wall was then repaired and restored. It is recommended that no further archaeological work is required during this work
