'Culthibert (Culthibbert). This name applies to a small district which comprises a number of small farmsteadings all of which have got suitable offices attached. Property of J. Gordon Esq.'

Name Book 1865.

(Previously entered as Farmsteading: classification amended to Cottage; Croft; Farmstead). Culthibert is a working farm centred around a small U-plan range. The range, which faces NNE, is depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1869, sheet lxiii and 1901, sheet lxiii.SW, respectively). The occupier was not available to give permission on the date of visit, therefore no detailed notes of the steading were taken.

In 1869, Cultihibert was little more than a croft whose enclosed improved land amounted to about 15 acres (c. 6ha). By the end of the 19th century, however, an additional 12.8 acres (c.5.2ha) of enclosed, improved land was probably added when the neighbouring croft (NJ61SW 22) to the S was abandoned.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, RJCM), 28 October 1998.
