(NJ 5086 6608) Bede House (NR)

(Site of)

OS 6" map, (1938)

There may have been more than one bedehouse in Cullen. William Lawtie, who died in 1657, founded a bedehouse for farmers and farmers' widows.

Again, a hospital is said to have been founded for men by the family of Findlater, while another was founded for women by the same family. These would probably not be earlier than the 17th century.

D E Easson 1957; J M McPherson nd; Spalding Club 1847-69.

No traces of this bede-house or hospital remain in what is now grass-park land.

Visited by OS (WDJ), 15 September 1961.

No change.

Visited by OS (NKB), 27 July 1967.
