Archaeology Notes

NJ53SW 83 5360 3002

Nothing is now visible of this cottage on a wide grass verge on the N side of the junction of the B9002 public road and the farm track that leads to Leith Hall Home Farm (NJ53SW 24). A scattered spread of rubble, which is situated immediately NE of where the cottage stood, may be no more than field-cleared stones.

The cottage is depicted as roofed on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1870, sheet xliii and 1901, sheet xliii.NW respectively).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 7 November 2000.

Activities

Field Visit (June 2006)

Two buildings and a yard are shown in this position on the 1866 and 1899 OS maps. It does not appear to be visible on 1968 aerial photographs. Named by RCAHMS as House of Syde
