Archaeology Notes

NJ52NE 106 5766 2532

Nothing is now visible of a cottage that stood at the edge of a cultivated field 700m WNW of Cotetown farmsteading (NJ52NE 105). The cottage is depicted as roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1870, sheet xliii), when it was accompanied by a garden immediately to the WNW; at the NW corner of this garden was a small roofed structure. The cottage and the other features appear to have been removed before the end of the 19th century and they are not shown on the 2nd edition of the map (1901, sheet xliii.SE).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 7 June 1999.
