Archaeology Notes

NJ36SE 30.07 centred NJ 36331 62335

Only the fuel compound is discernable amongst a group of four recently built houses within what was Dallachy Airfield dispersed Communal site no.3. The outline of the enclosure for the site is still visible, both on the ground and on the current OS digital maps.

The airfield plan for Dallachy dispersed sites shows that this enclosure also contained stores for groceries, rations, the Institute, education block, squash court, barbers, tailors and shoemakers shops, latrines, water tanks and various other buildings (After the Battle, Airfield plan no.19, Crown Copyright/RAF Museum).

The new houses are annotated as 'Blairmhor', 'Ben Aigan' and 'Carwhyn' with the enclosure noted as 'Camp Site (disused), on the current OS digital maps.
