Archaeology Notes

See also NJ41SE 42.07 and NJ41SE 42.08 .

This granite boundary stone is situated about 170m WNW of the House of Newe, but it lies within a plantation of trees and its exact location was not plotted on the date of visit. Rectangular in section, it measures 0.3m in breadth by 0.15m in thickness and about 0.6m in height; on its S face there is an incised letter I, and on the N face the letter C, while on the flat top of the stone there is the number 4.

The stone is not depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1903, sheet lx) and, therefore, probably dates to the early part of the 20th century. It is one of a series of boundary stones that also includes NJ31SE 42.07 and NJ31SE 42.08 .

Visited by RCAHMS (SPH), 5 March 1998.
