Archaeology Notes

NJ31SE 135 centred 3762 1227

In the old policies of the House of Newe (NJ31SE 42.00), between the western drive and an upper road leading to the house and Newe Avenue, the remains of rig-and-furrow cultivation extend over an area of at least 1ha. The most prominent rigs, measuring some 6m in breadth by 0.5m in height, drop obliquely from the upper road from NW to SE, but there are also faint traces of other rigs extending to the W; these are aligned WNW and ESE. On the slope below the prominent rigs, and also dropping down below the drive, there are rigs aligned N and S.

Visited by RCAHMS (SPH), 4 March 1998.
